The Drumsticks, also known as Moringa oleifera, is the widely cultivated species from the family of Moringaceae. It is native to the Himalayas in northwestern India and widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical areas, where its seed pods and leaves are used as vegetables. The Major producers of the Drumsticks are India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Africa, Central and South America, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, and Taiwan.
Description:
The Drumsticks is a long slender, dark green seed- edible pod. These pods can range in length from 6 to 18 inches and have constrictions at the seed nodes. Pods have fleshy pulp and round pea sized covered with a hull. They are used for several health benefits and have traditionally been used for nutritional, medicinal, and industrial uses. Its seeds produce oil that is known as Ben Oil that is used in hair care, perfumes, and salads and for lubricating machines.
Storage:
The Drumsticks are kept fresh by wrapping it up in a plastic bag or paper bag at room temperature and out of Sunlight. They can be stored in the refrigerator to keep it fresh for up to a week.
Uses:
The Drumsticks are culinary vegetable commonly used in soups and curries. The long drumsticks are often cut into short length and stewed in curries and soups. The outer skin of Drumsticks is tough and fibrous, thus it is chewed to extract the juices and nutrients.
