Nutmeg is the seed of the Myristica Fragrans is a dark leaved, evergreen tree. This tree is mainly cultivated for two spices derived from its fruit. It is commonly grown in the Caribbean, other tropical areas of the world, and in Southern India. The Major producers of Long Pepper are Indonesia, Grenada, India, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, and Caribbean Islands.
Description:
Nutmeg is a spice made from the seed of the fragrant nutmeg tree. The spice has a distinctive pungent fragrance and a warm slight sweet taste. The Seed is dried over a period of several weeks. During this process, the nutmeg shrinks away from its hard seed coat until the kernels rattle in their shell when shaken. After that, the shell is then broken and nutmeg are picked out. Dried nutmegs are grayish brown ovals with furrowed surfaces. Nutmeg contains 7-14 percent essential oil, the principal components of which are Pinene, Camphene, and Dipentene.

Nutmeg can be stored in an airtight container away from moisture, heat, and sunlight. They will remain fresh and vibrantly flavored for about one year.
